arecibo antenna

Visit the world’s largest radio telescope at Arecibo, a 20-acre (8-hectare) dish used to observe the universe, exploring a range of natural attractions and scientific exhibits on site. Nestled in the mountains of northern Puerto Rico, the observatory is home to the world's largest radar/radio telescope. Scientists from around the world make use of the giant 1,000 foot-diameter dish to listen to the universe. You’ll have views of the huge telescope from an observation platform, where its austere metallic symmetry shimmers in dramatic contrast to the dense, green, tropical landscape.

You'll have an opportunity to see more than 25 various exhibits and see the dish! In addition, you will get to:

  • Learn about the Earth and our solar system.
  • Learn about our neighboring stars and galaxies
  • Learn about technology used in studying these natural sciences.
  • See meteors on display
  • Watch a short movie called "A Day at the Telescope"
